The Faculty of Arts has organized the orientation program for the newly enrolled Bachelor of Arts students of the academic year 2021/22 on 04th July 2023 at Kailasapathy Auditorium of the University of Jaffna from 09.30 am – 01.00 pm. More than 580 students who were chosen to pursue the Bachelor of Arts Degree programme in the Academic year 2021/22 participated in the event face-to-face and virtually.
Professor S. Srisatkunarajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Heads of Departments, Professors, Senior Lecturers, Lecturers, Students, belonging to the Faculty of Arts and Faculty of Hindu Studies and other guests also participated in the event.
Mrs. A. Sivaneswaran, Deputy Registrar, Faculty of Arts gave introductory remarks for the orientation programme. The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor S. Raguram delivered the Dean’s address. The Chief Guest’s address was given by Professor S.Srisatkunarajah, Vice Chancellor of the University of Jaffna. Mr. S.Ketheeswaran, Acting Librarian, Professor G.Sashikesh, Director, Students Welfare, Dr. A.Vengadaramana, Proctor, Mr. Jelsin, President, Arts Students Union also made their remarks at the function. The vote of thanks was delivered by Ms. M.W.Surendraraj, Students’ counsellor.
Thereafter, sessions of the orientation started with the extended programme. Dr. K.Shanmuganathan, Head, Department of English Language Teaching, delivered his notes about English, Mrs. S.Rajashanthan, Senior Lecturer, delivered the speech on Public Speaking and Communication skills; Mr. S.Nirosan, Senior Lecturer, delivered the speech on Ethics and Moral values; Dr.(Mrs).K.Chandrasekar, Deputy Librarian, delivered the speech on Information Literacy.
